Standing Rock Bootlegger Crochet Boot Bracelet |
So, I have been working on getting this little Bootlegger idea off the ground, but seem to be hitting roadblocks with pricing, photos, etc.. Yes, my Etsy shop has some of the Bootleggers I have made with jacquard ribbons, but I have also been crocheting these fun boot bracelets/bands/belts...whatever you want to call them. (You would probably laugh if you saw all that I have made.) Making the crochet Bootleggers has become a sort of meditation or prayer practice for me.
These past weeks my heart has been focussed on the people at Standing Rock. As a "middle aged woman" and one that has had a respiratory virus for the past week, the fact that I am not prepared to go over to the camps has left me feeling a bit hopeless at times for the situation in Standing Rock. But, I have been doing a lot of crocheting and praying too, and through it all I have become more determined than ever to reach out to the people there and offer support.
Financial support for Standing Rock water protectors is a necessity. Creating awareness is also a necessity. Along with that, finding a way to reach out and connect with the people there--particularly women--has been a great desire.
With that, I am going to throw this idea out there:
For $10 (which basically covers costs) you can purchase one custom crocheted Bootleggers to wear, and I will also send another one over to the Standing Rock camps for another woman to wear.
My thought is that this could be a way to show solidarity with the Standing Rock female water protectors, and wrap a little love around, per se.
The colors are red, turquoise, and gold--reflecting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe logo. (Maybe there is a better word than "logo" but I am not sure what it is.) The turquoise also represents water surrounded be red for love and gold for light.
What do you think? Is this just another one of my stupid ideas, or could this be kinda neat?
Sorry, the photo is not great, but I wanted to get this out there. Sometimes if I wait for perfection, it just does not happen.
I think I will put a listing up on Etsy to see if anyone is interested. Here is the link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/496400405/standing-rock-solidarity-and-love
